I do landscape design in Texas, our installers and subs will sometimes charge extra to work in certain gated communities. They expect to get hassled, usually not as bad as this, but often enough to where it’s baked into the cost of doing business. I got bitched out for not belonging because my work truck wasnt brand new, so clearly I'm casing the neighborhood to see who to rob. All awhile wearing shirts with giant company logos, going in and out of a wrapped company trailer behind the wrapped company truck. All of my crew were professional looking, mix of white and Asian people. We wouldn't deliver in that community anymore even if covid weren't going on. Really the bottom line is there’s some miserable people out there that have nothing better to do than hassle someone. For some self-worth comes from being "better" than others. Often this is just a vague race/religion/class their better than. Thus why inevitably the excuse well "their the exception, not the rule" occurs once they know a decent person of "lower" race/religion/class. Certain royalty are notionally charged a massive amount. So that when they pay a reduced amount, they get to feel that they have beaten down the hotel, yet the hotel is actually charging normal plus interest , with a bit extra for hassle factor in getting paid.
